How to set up a study Discord server

A good study server is calm, easy to find your way around, and makes it easy to start a focused session with other people.

A channel layout that works

  • Info: #welcome, #rules, #announcements, #roles
  • Study: #study-chat, #goals (post today's goals and tick them off), #resources, #ask-for-help
  • Subjects: one channel per subject, visible to members who pick that subject role
  • Focus rooms: a 'Create a room' voice channel that makes a private room for each study session
  • Off-topic: #general, #wins (celebrate finished essays and exams)

Rules that keep it calm

  • Cameras and mics optional in focus rooms.
  • No spam, shouting or mass pings: let auto-mod handle these quietly.
  • Be kind about questions; everyone's learning.

Set it up in one press

Wisp's Study server setup switches on calm auto-mod, quiet levels, focus rooms that make themselves, suggestions and a !pomodoro command, and makes the channels it needs. You can change everything afterwards.

Keep people coming back

  • Post a weekly goal thread.
  • Use /remind for deadlines and exams.
  • Run a study-hour leaderboard with levels and voice XP.
