How to add levels and XP to your Discord server
Levels turn chatting into a game: members earn XP, level up, unlock roles and compete on a leaderboard. Done well, it rewards your regulars without encouraging spam.
Setting up levels
- On the Wisp dashboard, open Levels and switch it on.
- Leave XP at 15–25 per message with a 60-second cooldown: people earn XP for chatting, not for spamming.
- Choose where level-ups are announced. A #level-ups channel keeps your main chat clean.
- Add Role rewards, for example a role at levels 5, 10, 20 and 50.
- Optionally turn on XP for time in voice.
Reward roles that work
- Give rewards a colour and a place higher in the member list, so people can see them.
- Unlock something small but real: a channel, the ability to post images, or a custom role colour.
- Space them out more at higher levels, so there's always something to aim for.
Keep it fair
- Stop XP in bot-command and spam channels (No XP in these channels).
- Give Double XP to Server Boosters as a thank-you.
- Use /xp to fix mistakes, and keep the cooldown on.
Show it off
/rank shows a member's rank card, /leaderboard shows the top 10, and every server with levels gets a public web leaderboard members can share.
Wisp's Gaming server setup switches on everything in this guide, with good settings, and makes the channels it needs.

Can I move XP from another bot?
You can set any member's level with /xp level, so you can carry over your top members by hand.
