How to set up a gaming Discord server

Gaming servers grow fast and get targeted by scams and raids more than any other kind. A good layout and a few automatic protections make all the difference.

A channel layout that works

  • Info: #welcome, #rules, #announcements, #roles (pick your games)
  • Chat: #general, #clips-and-screenshots, #memes
  • Games: a channel per game, visible to members with that game's role
  • LFG: #looking-for-group, plus a 'Create a room' voice channel that makes squad rooms
  • Staff: #mod-log, #server-logs (hidden from members)

Roles

  • Game roles from a role menu, so people find teammates.
  • Level reward roles for your regulars.
  • A 'Streams' or 'Events' ping role, so you don't need @everyone.

Protection gaming servers need

  • Block links from non-staff, except YouTube, Twitch, Medal and image sites: this stops fake Nitro and Steam scams.
  • Anti-raid that locks the server automatically.
  • Logs of deleted messages, so you can see what was posted.

Set it up in one press

Wisp's Gaming server setup does all of this: auto-mod with a gaming-friendly allowed list, anti-raid, logs, welcome cards, levels with voice XP, squad voice rooms and a 🔥 starboard. It makes the channels it needs.
